UFL to announce 2011 schedule on Thursday

The United Football League will announce its 2011 schedule at 1 p.m. ET on Thursday.

The UFL, which features five teams — the Hartford Colonials, Omaha Nighthawks, Sacramento Mountain Lions, Virginia Destroyers and defending champion Las Vegas Locos — is entering its third professional season. The 11-week season is slated to begin in August and will culminate with the league championship to be played in mid-October.

"We simply can't wait to get back out onto the field to play football," UFL Commissioner Michael Huyghue said in a statement.  "Fans will see competitive and meaningful games on Sundays when preseason is usually the only game available, and then we will continue through the traditional fall season with more entertaining football."

The schedule will be posted at www.UFL-Football.com, as well as through social media services.
